The Pennsylvania AHEC Community Oriented Rural Education (CORE) Rotation provides immersive learning experiences for health professional students and residents. Participants engage in clinical care, community immersion, and project-based work to understand and address the unique challenges of rural and underserved communities in Pennsylvania.

What is the CORE Rotation?

The CORE Rotation is an 8-week (or longer) experience that combines clinical practice with community immersion. Approximately 20% of the rotation focuses on community-based learning, offering hands-on exposure to healthcare in rural settings.

Why Participate?

Gain practical experience in resource-limited environments while learning from seasoned primary care clinicians. Develop cultural competence, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of healthcare equity. These skills prepare you for a future in addressing the needs of underserved populations.

What to Expect

Clinical Practice

Work alongside dedicated preceptors in primary care clinics. Enhance your skills in patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and caring for rural communities.

Community Immersions

Spend time engaging with local organizations and leaders, understanding the ecosystem that supports rural healthcare.

Projects

​

Tackle real-world healthcare challenges through assignments like the Health Equity Report and Optimizing Healthcare Delivery Project.
